Millions March across US in “No Kings” Protests Against Trump
Millions of Americans took to the streets in June to participate in “No Kings” protests, demonstrating opposition to what organizers describe as increasing authoritarianism under the Trump administration. Demonstrations occurred in over 2,000 locations nationwide, including San Diego, Atlanta, New York city, Houston, Honolulu, boston, Kansas City in Missouri, Bozeman in Montana, Chicago and New Orleans.
The protests center on concerns that President Trump is exceeding constitutional limits, including allegations of using taxpayer money for “power grabs” and deploying federal forces to US cities. Organizers also point to Trump’s expressed desire for a third term and actions perceived as defying the courts, slashing services, and conducting deportations without due process.
The Harvard Crowd Counting Consortium estimates between 2 and 4.8 million people participated, making it “probably the second-largest single day demonstration as Trump first took office in January 2017,” following the 2017 Women’s march. The “No Kings” framing is a direct reference to the absence of a monarchy in the United States.
