Greens’ Congratulatory Post for Windeck Mayor Features Wrong Town’s Marketplace
Windeck/Nidderau, Germany – A congratulatory Facebook post from the Green Party association in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) celebrating the re-election of Windeck Mayor Alexandra Gauss (Greens) mistakenly featured a photo of the marketplace in Nidderau-Win cover, sparking amusement and commentary online.
The post, intended too highlight Gauss’s confirmation in office within the Bergisches Land Nature Park, included a photo montage with an outdated image of the nidderau marketplace, identifiable by its long-removed fountain.
“The Windeckers know: Something in their city is responsible with strong Greens. For a green, just and livable Windeck,” the NRW Greens wrote.
The error quickly drew attention from internet users. One commenter wrote, “You shouldn’t let everything go blindly over chatt and check beforehand,” suggesting a lack of fact-checking. Another pointed out, “Congratulations from Nidderau-Winecken, where the marketplace is located on the background of the photo!”
Reader heinz Bohlender noted the irony of Green Bundestag group leader Britta Haßelmann congratulating under the image without realizing the incorrect setting.
Nidderau Green City Councilor Bernhard Hildebrand responded with humor, suggesting a city twinning between Windeck and Nidderau. Nidderau Mayor Andreas Bär (SPD) seized the opportunity for city marketing, inviting visitors to see the “piece of jewelry” that is the Winecken marketplace, including its newly redesigned fountain.
The post has since garnered reactions ranging from playful teasing to lighthearted city promotion.
