5 takeaways from first 9 days of 2026-27 NBA season

NBA Power Rankings: Grizzlies Start 6-0 Led by Rookie Cameron Boozer

November 3, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The Memphis Grizzlies surged to a 6-0 record ahead of Week 3 of the regular season, establishing themselves as the last undefeated team in the league, according to NBA.com reporting. Led by a rookie forward and a guard averaging 9.7 points per game over his career, the team finished 12 games out of the Play-In Tournament last season.

Memphis Reaches Rare Territory with Six Straight Wins

The Grizzlies stand as the 21st team in the 22 years since the league expanded to 30 teams to begin a season with six consecutive victories. Of the 20 preceding teams to start 6-0, all 20 advanced to the playoffs, 19 finished as a No. 5 seed or higher, and 10 captured the No. 1 seed in their conference, NBA.com reported.

18 of those 20 teams won a playoff series, 12 reached the conference finals, seven made the Finals, and four secured the championship. The only two squads from that group that failed to win a postseason series were the 2010-11 New Orleans Hornets, who finished as the No. 7 seed, and the 2022-23 Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks earned the No. 1 seed that year but fell to the No. 8 seed Miami Heat in five games after Giannis Antetokounmpo departed Game 1 with a back injury and missed Games 2 and 3.

Rookie forward Cameron Boozer and the Grizzlies are 6-0 before Week 3 of the regular season. The early schedule continues with home matchups against the Pelicans and Pacers, followed by an Emirates NBA Cup game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Around the League in Week 3

While Memphis climbs the power rankings alongside the Golden State Warriors—who finished last week 4-0—other franchises face early struggles. The Indiana Pacers opened the season 0-4, dropping games to both the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder dropped two consecutive games by a total of 45 points following a 4-0 start, playing without injured contributors Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace, and Alex Caruso.

In conference play, the Western Conference holds a 10-2 record against the Eastern Conference after going 5-1 last week. Power rankings updates show Memphis making a jump of 12 spots, while Indiana fell 10 spots and Minnesota dropped nine.
