Memphis Grizzlies Start 5-0 as Cameron Boozer Records First Triple-Double
Memphis Grizzlies Open Season with Five Straight Wins Following Victory Over Portland
Ten days into the NBA regular season, the Memphis Grizzlies have emerged as the league’s primary surprise by securing their fifth victory without a loss, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 124-103 on October 30, 2026. The unblemished start arrives after a turbulent transitional period that saw the franchise trade away major roster centerpieces.
Roster Restructuring Yields Unexpected Early Success
The 5-0 start stands in sharp contrast to the organization’s moves during the previous season, when the front office traded Jaren Jackson Junior and sent franchise cornerstone Ja Morant to the Trail Blazers in exchange for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray. Following a finish near the bottom of the standings, the team utilized its third-round pick in the draft to select Cameron Boozer, initiating a total rebuild. While the team has yet to face top-tier title favorites, victories over the Utah Jazz twice, the Golden State Warriors, the Sacramento Kings, and Portland validate the early performance of a heavily renewed roster managed by head coach Tuomas Lisalo.
Ja Morant Exits Bitter Return Due to Injury
The matchup marked the first time Ja Morant faced the franchise that drafted him second overall in 2019, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors and led the team to 56 wins in the 2021 campaign. Prior to the game, the guard stated he never wanted to leave the city, though he noted he felt less pressure in his new environment. Morant finished the night with 14 points and three assists in 23 minutes before leaving the game with seven minutes remaining due to a left hamstring injury, having been contained by the perimeter defense of his former teammates.
Cameron Boozer Records Historic Triple-Double
Rookie Cameron Boozer recorded the first triple-double of his career, posting 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists with 60 percent shooting from the field and four conversions on five three-point attempts. The performance makes him the second-youngest player in NBA history to notch a triple-double. Bench contributions supported the effort, with Isaiah Stewart adding 18 points in 16 minutes, Cedric Coward scoring 17 points with seven rebounds and three steals, and Zach Edey contributing 13 points, including a late-period three-pointer that broke open the contest. GG Jackson, Ty Jerome, Jaylen Wells, and Quinten Post each added 10 points to round out the rotation.
