Minneapolis Public Schools Promotes Event on Radicalization of Young White Boys and Men
Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Community Education is promoting an upcoming event at Southwest High School centered on the right-wing online radicalization of young white boys and men, alphanews.org reported. The October 29 event, titled “Is My Child Being Radicalized?”, features author and journalist Angela Denker, who wrote “Disciples of White Jesus: The Radicalization of American Boyhood.”
Event Details and Schedule at Southwest High School
The presentation is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Southwest High School. Members of the public can register for the evening through the Minneapolis Community Education registration site. MPS Community Education highlighted the event on Facebook, asking how communities can understand tragedies involving young adults.
“When tragedy strikes a community at the hands of young adults, we are often asked how this could have happened,” the district’s community education department stated in its promotional post. The district also confirmed to alphanews.org that no public funds were used to pay for the event.
Author Focus on Christian Nationalism and Ideology
Angela Denker describes herself as an ELCA Lutheran pastor, journalist, and author who speaks frequently on Christian nationalism. Her latest book examines the intersection of right-wing fundamentalist Christianity, traditional gender roles, and the rise of religious-based hatred and violence among young American men. Chapter titles in her book include “The Violence of White Christian Masculinity,” “Created in His God’s Image?”, and “Wild West, Wild Men, and De-radicalization.”
According to the event’s promotional materials, Denker will explain the methods and ideologies behind online radicalization that target a sense of disconnectedness and identity search among young white males. The discussion touches on American culture, social issues, journalism, theology, and parenting.
