Jakarta, Indonesia – Firefighters in East jakarta spent Wednesday morning isolating residual flames after a importent fire engulfed a plywood warehouse in Cipinang, Pulogadung, the previous night. The blaze, which consumed a 500-square-meter warehouse, prompted a large-scale response and the temporary evacuation of local residents.
Swift Response to a Rapidly Spreading Fire
The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Sudin Gulkarmat) mobilized quickly after receiving an alert at 11:29 p.m. local time.According to Abdul Wahid, head of operations at the agency, a local resident reported the fire via WhatsApp, describing flames suddenly erupting
inside the building.
Fire crews arrived on the scene just 12 minutes later, at 11:41 p.m. despite the highly flammable nature of the plywood, firefighters contained the blaze by 1:09 a.m. Cooling operations commenced at 2:20 a.m. and continued into the morning.
Mr. Wahid emphasized the ongoing efforts, stating, The focus is on cooling down the scene while checking the structure and remaining hot spots.
Ninety personnel and 18 fire trucks where deployed to carry out these cooling operations.
Evacuations and Ongoing Investigation
The fire forced the evacuation of 20 households, displacing 50 residents. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Mr. Wahid confirmed, no fatalities were reported. We have yet to estimate the material losses, as the data is still being collected.
