Marseille Police Attack: Viral Video Sparks Political Debate

Marseille Police Car Struck, Officers Insulted in Violent Incident

Marseille, France A shocking incident in Marseille has ignited public outrage after a police vehicle was violently struck by another car, followed by insults and jeers directed at the officers. The event, captured on video and widely shared online, has drawn strong condemnation from local political figures.

The video, posted on TikTok on Monday evening, shows a police car with its lights and siren activated being hit at an intersection by a white vehicle. The impact caused the police car to flip onto its side.As two officers emerged from the damaged vehicle, the driver of the white car reportedly engaged with them. The footage also depicts smoke, seemingly from projectiles, and audible shouts from onlookers.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m.in northern Marseille. According to a police source, the patrol had been pursuing a motocross rider who had refused to stop.

Martine Vassal, president of the Bouches-du-rhône department, expressed her dismay, stating she was “shocked” by the images of police being “insulted, despised if not rescued.” She added, “I am ashamed this evening to be Marseille,” sharing the video, which garnered over 36,000 views.

Franck Allisio, a national Rally deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône, voiced his disgust on X, noting “cries of joy, laughter and horns” following the accident. He lamented the lack of support for the officers,adding that some individuals “wanted to get them tobacco.”

Renaud Muselier, president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’azur region, described the images as “shameful,” highlighting the violence against police officers in the street.

Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan condemned the “act of violence which targeted the police” with the “greatest firmness.” As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made, and there was no indication that the white car had intentionally struck the police vehicle.
