Malaysia Family Deaths: Rise in Emotional Distress & Recent Murders

A family of five, including three young children, were found dead in their home in Kuantan, Pahang, on Tuesday, prompting expressions of shock and concern from both local authorities and the state ruler. Police discovered the bodies of the man, his wife and their two daughters, along with his mother, at a single-story terraced house in Cerating Damai.

Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman reported that some of the victims exhibited visible injuries, including wounds to the hands, ears, and neck. A 29cm knife was recovered from the scene. The incident was initially discovered by the suspect’s 15-year-ancient brother, who immediately alerted authorities, according to Bernama reports.

The man, who had recently resigned from a job in Selangor and begun employment in Kuantan last week, had moved back into his family home approximately a month prior to the incident. The house was occupied by eight family members: the man, his wife, two daughters, his mother, and three younger brothers.

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, the ruler of Pahang, expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy, describing it as a shocking event. In a Facebook post, he stated, “I wish to express my sorrow over the murder incident… it should not have happened.” He further advised citizens to remain vigilant regarding individuals displaying troubling behavior, emphasizing that such conduct should not be tolerated.

This incident follows a separate case in Johor, where a 34-year-old doctor, Chia Tong Hong, was charged on January 16 with the murder of his wife and four-year-old son. Authorities reported that the woman died from a slash wound to the neck, while the child showed signs of smothering, according to local news outlet The Star. Chia was arrested on January 3.

Separately, Nancy, speaking at the Darul Hana Mosque in Kuching, highlighted the perform of a support centre that assisted and resolved 156,033 cases between October 2021 and December 2025, primarily involving individuals experiencing emotional distress. She emphasized the importance of sensitivity towards those facing emotional difficulties, advocating for both advice and professional intervention when necessary. Free Malaysia Today reported her comments.

The Darul Hana Mosque itself has been the subject of discussion in recent years, with PAS raising concerns about the use of the name “Darul Hana” for Sarawak, as reported by Free Malaysia Today.
