Woman at Center of Madeleine McCann Hit-and-Run Theory Questions Police Search Tactics
Praia da Luz, Portugal – A woman identified as a person of interest in the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann has recounted a frustrating experience with Portuguese police, questioning the scope of their examination. The case, wich continues to draw international attention 18 years later, recently resurfaced with renewed focus on a theory that McCann, then three years old, may have been struck by a vehicle.British and German police began investigating the woman in 2018, exploring the possibility a driver fled the scene after an accidental collision. In a recent interview with Sky News, the woman, who worked at a restaurant near the Ocean club resort where the McCann family was staying, stated she was working on the night of the disappearance and learned of the event upon returning home around 10:30 PM. Her partner, a chef at the Ocean Club, had served dinner to the McCanns and their friends that evening.
the woman firmly denied any involvement in the disappearance, stating, “I don’t even know if there was a car accident, as I was working.” She also refuted claims she had access to a vehicle on the night in question, asking, “Do you think I ran about it? I didn’t even have a car at that time.”
She described being subjected to multiple searches of her apartment by Portuguese authorities, along with other residences in the area. During a second search, police requested she empty her freezer,a demand she found especially offensive.
“Do you think I cut it into pieces and I’m going to eat it for dinner?” she reportedly retorted to an officer at the time, expressing her outrage at the implication.
