In a highly anticipated reunion for fans of the global boy band phenomenon, louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik of One Direction are embarking on a U.S. road trip documented in a new series for Netflix,The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The series marks a significant collaboration between the former bandmates, years after Malik’s departure from One Direction in 2015 and the group’s subsequent disbandment.
The docuseries will offer a personal look into Tomlinson and Malik’s lives and careers as they travel across America, and is expected to address the 2023 death of fellow One Direction member Liam Payne, who died at age 31 after a fall from a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The project aims to capitalize on the enduring popularity of One Direction, drawing in the band’s vast international fanbase to the streaming platform.
Directed by Nicola Marsh, whose previous credits include the Demi lovato documentary Child Star, and also song Exploder and Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story, the series is slated for a 2026 release. Production will be handled by Campfire Studios, the company behind Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, Smartless: on the Road and America’s Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
One Direction, formed during the 2010 season of The X Factor, also included Harry Styles and Niall Horan. Discovered by Simon Cowell and Nicole scherzinger, the group quickly ascended to global stardom, becoming one of the best-selling boy bands of all time and garnering support from figures like James Corden, David Beckham, and 5 Seconds of Summer.
While Styles and Horan are not expected to appear in the Netflix docuseries, the project represents a key content offering for the streamer, leveraging the continued interest in One Direction’s legacy. Malik,who maintains a home in Pennsylvania,will be featured alongside Tomlinson as they navigate their American travels and reflect on their shared history.
Campfire Studio’s Ross Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans will executive produce the docuseries.
