Barbora Krejčíková will compete for a spot in the US Open quarterfinals, facing domestic doubles competition. The tournament, the final Grand Slam of the season, began August 29,2025.
Krejčíková and her partner will challenge for advancement amidst heightened attention following an incident in a second-round match involving American Taylor Townsend and Jelena Ostapenko. During a 5-5 tie in the first set,a winning ball touched the tape, but Townsend did not offer a traditional apology to Ostapenko. Ostapenko, known for her emotional responses, initially described Townsend’s behavior as “uneducated and no-level,” later issuing an apology via Instagram.
Townsend, currently ranked 139th, reached a Grand Slam eight-finals once before, six years ago at the US Open in New York. This year, she has progressed through the tournament without dropping a set, defeating Antonia Ružičová of croatia (ranked 69th) in the first round and Mirra andrejevová of Russia (ranked fifth) in the sixteen best. This marks only her third career victory over a Top 10 player, and her first in over two years.
