Kid Rock: Trump Put Him on the Phone With President Macron
Musician Kid Rock told comedian Bill Maher’s audience on Friday that a golf outing with President Donald Trump ended with the singer on the phone with French President Emmanuel Macron after Trump handed him the device, Fox News reported.
From a Trump Golf Cart to the French President
Appearing on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Kid Rock recounted how the phone call materialized while he stood beside the president’s golf cart. He stated that Trump takes calls throughout the day and described the working pace of the presidency. According to the musician, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, Trump handed over the phone mid-game and told the French leader that he was standing with the artist.
Kid Rock recalled telling Macron, “Hello, Mr. President,” before introducing his own roots by saying he was from the “Paris of the Midwest: Detroit.” Maher laughed at the description, noting that Trump had left the French president on the line with the musician while driving away in the golf cart.
Democratic Strategist Criticizes Maher's Reaction to Trump Story
The anecdote arrived during an episode that also addressed a Truth Social post from Trump criticizing Maher following their second White House dinner. Kid Rock and ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith also attended that gathering. Maher compared dining with Trump to dating Taylor Swift, telling the audience it is fun at the time but leads to criticism later.

The segment drew sharp disagreement from Democratic political strategist Kaivon Shroff. In comments provided to Fox News Digital, Shroff argued that Maher’s reaction to the golf story was a performance rather than a genuine response. Shroff contended that if Barack Obama had handed Emmanuel Macron to a celebrity on a golf course, Maher would have criticized the action as unserious. Shroff further claimed that Maher’s ongoing commentary effectively aligns him with the Republican party.
Fox News Digital reached out to both the White House and Maher for comment regarding the broadcast.
