Popeyes, the TikTok-Fueled Chicken Chain, Confirms Rapid UK Expansion
Popeyes louisiana Kitchen, the US-based fried chicken brand that has gained a massive following on TikTok, is accelerating its expansion across the united Kingdom, aiming to nearly double its current footprint with over 45 new restaurant openings. the aggressive growth plan, announced earlier this year, is projected to generate around 2,500 jobs and drive sales exceeding £200m in 2025.
The expansion arrives as the fast-food sector witnesses heightened competition, with established players like KFC investing heavily in UK growth alongside emerging brands vying for market share. Popeyes’ success is particularly notable for its organic reach through social media, specifically TikTok, where videos showcasing its menu items have gone viral, creating important consumer demand. This digital buzz is fueling the company’s ambitious rollout, targeting locations across the UK to capitalize on the growing appetite for Louisiana-style fried chicken.
Popeyes first entered the UK market in late 2021,and its initial openings were met with long queues and significant media attention. The brand’s menu features signature items like its spicy chicken sandwich, alongside classic Southern sides.
The expansion plans follow similar moves by other US chicken chains. Wingstop, recently acquired by a US private equity firm for over £400m, intends to open at least 20 new UK locations this year. KFC, meanwhile, announced a £1.5bn investment in may to create over 7,000 jobs and open 500 restaurants by 2035, including upgrades to 20% of its existing estate.
