YouTube Star Jack Doherty Arrested in Miami Beach for Blocking Traffic, Drug Possession
MIAMI BEACH, FL – Popular YouTuber Jack Doherty, known for his “daredevil” stunts and pranks, was arrested early Saturday morning in Miami Beach after allegedly blocking traffic to film content for social media, police said. he faces multiple charges, including possession of amphetamine and marijuana, and also resisting an officer without violence.
According to arrest documents obtained by CBS News Miami, officers were conducting a high-visibility detail along the 700 block of Washington Avenue in the city’s Entertainment District around 3:12 a.m. when Doherty and a group entered the northbound lanes from the sidewalk. Doherty then separated from the group and “attempted to engage officers to create video content, positioning himself in the middle of the roadway with passing vehicular traffic and creating a significant safety hazard.”
Police issued repeated commands for Doherty to exit the roadway, but he refused, even after members of his group urged him to comply. Officers warned him that continued refusal would lead to arrest. Doherty allegedly responded by stating, “Once I’m done with this bet,” before continuing to obstruct traffic. He was subsequently apprehended in the middle of the road.
During a search, officers found “half of an orange oval-shaped pill with 3 imprinted on it, consistent with a Schedule II amphetamine, and also a black plastic container holding three hand-rolled suspected cannabis cigarettes weighing approximately 4.0 grams combined,” arrest documents state.
A records check revealed no active warrants. Doherty was then taken to the Miami Beach Police holding facility for booking and an after-hours attorney was contacted for charging guidance.
The miami Beach Police Department released a statement emphasizing its commitment to public safety. “The Miami Beach Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to maintain public safety and order throughout the city-regardless of celebrity status,” the agency said. ”The Department will continue to take proactive enforcement action against behavior that endangers residents, visitors, or officers and will hold all individuals accountable under the law.”
Doherty’s talent agency, Delka Talents, states on its website that he has over 3.2 million YouTube subscribers and has garnered over 500 million views on the platform. His most-watched video, as of March 2018, has over 18 million views. He is known for filming stunts and pranks on his YouTube channel, @Jackdohertyy.
