Gaza Faces Catastrophic Damage as Israeli Strikes Intensify,Leaving Tens of Thousands Displaced
Gaza – A recent surge in Israeli military action has resulted in widespread devastation across Gaza, with reports of a especially deadly strike on Friday claiming the lives of at least 14 members of the Al-Sultan family in the Al-Tawam district. The escalating conflict is rapidly exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis, leaving a trail of destruction and displacement in its wake.
According to Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense of Gaza, the past week has witnessed the destruction of twelve residential buildings comprised of over seven floors each – totaling around 500 apartments. This has forced over 10,000 residents from their homes.
“Israel announced ‘the opening of the doors of hell’ and the reality on the ground reflects that grim declaration,” Basal stated.
The impact extends far beyond these large-scale demolitions. More than 120 buildings with fewer than seven floors have been damaged, displacing an additional 7,200 people.Over 500 buildings have sustained partial damage, leaving approximately 30,000 individuals homeless. Even temporary shelters are not safe, with over 600 tents housing displaced families destroyed, forcing another 6,000 civilians to seek refuge elsewhere.
The destruction is not limited to residential areas. Ten schools and five mosques have been completely destroyed, further compounding the crisis and leaving over 50,000 Gazans – including a important number of children, women, and the elderly – without shelter.
The scale of the devastation is immense, and the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate rapidly.the need for urgent aid and international intervention is becoming increasingly critical as Gaza struggles to cope with the escalating crisis.
