Iran Warns Middle East Is on Brink of World War III Amid Escalating US Conflict

The Middle East stands on the brink of a third world war as escalating military engagements between regional powers and Western forces disrupt energy markets and send crude prices past $100 a barrel, according to warnings issued by Iranian officials and international reports. Kamran Ghazanfari, a Tehran representative in the Iranian parliament, warned that the expansion of conflict involving Russia and Ukraine alongside heightened tensions among world powers has created the conditions for a widespread global confrontation, as reported by Iran International.

Energy Markets and Tanker Strikes

Energy-driven inflation concerns mounted on Wednesday as Brent crude prices surged past $100 a barrel for the first time since July, driven by continuous disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. The US military destroyed five Iranian oil tankers—four in the Gulf of Oman and one near Kharg Island—following repeated missile strikes on a Navy warship over a two-day period, according to US Central Command statements cited by Reuters. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned during a visit to Colombia that Washington will continue targeting Iranian oil carriers in retaliation for ongoing attacks against US naval vessels.

Regional Escalations Across Saudi Arabia and Lebanon

The conflict expanded further as Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched attacks on multiple cities in Saudi Arabia, wounding at least 73 people and knocking operations at energy facilities offline, the Saudi-led coalition reported. In response to stalled diplomacy, the coalition vowed a firm operational response. Simultaneously, the Israeli military reported striking southern Lebanon following a Hezbollah drone launch directed at Israeli soldiers. Lebanon’s health ministry stated that Israeli strikes on the south have killed three people and injured 23 others, including medics, women, and children.

Retaliatory Missile Strikes and Diplomatic Strains

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated in a broadcast via Iranian state media that forces launched ballistic missiles at a US base in Jordan’s Al Azraq in direct retaliation for American strikes on Iranian oil carriers. Jordan has not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the incident.
