Iran-Hizbollah Conflict: Preparing for War with US & Israel?

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Hezbollah’s leader, Naim Qassem, has warned that his group will confront any U.S. Threats to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, signaling a potential escalation of regional conflict amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran. The warning, delivered on January 27, 2026, came as former U.S. President Donald Trump has increasingly threatened strikes against Iran following a crackdown on protesters within the country.

The situation is further complicated by reports that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is preparing Hezbollah for a possible war. This preparation includes bolstering Hezbollah’s capabilities and readiness for potential conflict with the U.S. And Israel, according to multiple reports.

Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation are currently underway. American and Iranian diplomats are scheduled to meet in Oman on February 6th in a last-ditch attempt to prevent a return to war, following a period of intensive regional diplomacy. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to be leveraging the tensions to further weaken Iran, Hamas in Gaza, and Hezbollah in Lebanon, reportedly advocating for increased military action.

Netanyahu’s strategy is driven, in part, by domestic political considerations. With elections approaching, renewed military action could potentially boost his poll ratings, despite a divided public opinion regarding further military intervention in Iran or Lebanon. The Israeli military is currently on standby for a potential fresh offensive in Lebanon as the situation in Iran unfolds.

Trump’s approach is described as fluctuating between a desire to project military strength and a willingness to negotiate a deal. Middle Eastern and Gulf states have been actively working to delay a U.S. Attack on Iran and create an environment conducive to negotiations. The deployment of a U.S. Naval armada to the region underscores the seriousness of the threat, which Trump has described as “beautiful.”

Qassem’s statement explicitly frames any attack on Khamenei as a trigger for Hezbollah’s involvement, stating that “a war on Iran will ignite the region.” This suggests a direct linkage between the security of Iran’s leadership and Hezbollah’s willingness to engage in conflict. The IRGC’s preparations for Hezbollah further solidify this potential for escalation.

The upcoming diplomatic meeting in Oman represents a critical juncture in preventing a wider conflict. The outcome of these negotiations, and the positions taken by the U.S., Iran, and Israel, will likely determine whether the region descends into further instability.
