Indian Family Dies in Tragic Cliff Fall Over iPhone Installment Dispute
On August 22, 2026, a financial dispute over an iPhone installment led to the tragic deaths of an entire family in Maharashtra, India, after an 18-year-old youth, his mother, and his father fell from the Khavda hill cliff in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, according to local media reports covered by detik.com.
The Escalation at Khavda Hill
The incident began around 10:00 AM local time when the 18-year-old youth went to the edge of the Khavda hill cliff and repeatedly threatened to jump, stating, “I will jump,” according to detik.com. Local villagers, family members, and police officers rushed to the site to intervene.
During the negotiations, a bystander urged the youth to stay alive for his mother. The teenager rejected the plea, answering, “No, I have to die. Despite nearly three hours of persuasion by villagers and his mother—who begged him to think of his future and his parents—the youth refused to step away from the ledge.”
Tragic Collapse During Rescue Attempts
As the standoff continued, police officers also attempted to persuade the teenager to move away from the drop, but their efforts failed. In the final 15 to 20 minutes before the fatal fall, the boy’s father climbed up the hill to get closer to him, having previously pleaded from below. As the youth moved closer to the edge, the father tried to grab his son to pull him back. Around 1:00 PM, both lost their balance and plummeted from the cliff, according to detik.com.

Eyewitness Sanjay Jadhav recounted the desperate efforts to save the young man. “The parents and other people tried hard to make him understand, but he didn’t want to listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill. Police officers were there too,” Jadhav stated, noting that the mother continuously begged her son not to jump, as detailed by detik.com.
