Delhi witnessed a record-shattering ODI as Australia defeated India in the third and final match, securing the bilateral series with a dominant performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.The match featured an astonishing 872 runs scored in total – the highest aggregate ever in both men’s and women’s One Day International, and List A cricket, surpassing the previous record of 872 between South Africa and Australia in 2006.
Australia posted a formidable 412, equaling their own national record set against Denmark at the 1997 Women’s World cup in Mumbai. This total is tied for the sixth-highest team score in women’s ODI history.
The series was leveled after the second ODI, where India’s Smriti mandhana delivered a stunning century in a 102-run victory. Mandhana became only the second batter too score consecutive ODI hundreds, following england’s Tammy Beaumont.
During Australia’s innings, a century was scored at a blistering pace, second only to Meg Lanning’s 45-ball hundred against New Zealand in 2012.
The match also saw a new record for boundaries in women’s ODIs, with a combined 111 – 99 fours and 12 sixes – struck throughout the innings.
This series win marks the 11th consecutive bilateral ODI series victory for Australia against India. They have now won nine consecutive ODI series dating back to a 2-1 defeat to England in the 2023 Women’s Ashes.
The back-and-forth nature of the series - Australia’s initial strong win, India’s subsequent response, and this high-scoring finale – highlights the growing competitiveness between the two teams and solidifies their status as frontrunners for the 2025 Women’s World Cup.
The 2025 Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by India and sri lanka, is scheduled to begin on September 30th.The opening match will feature India versus Sri Lanka in Guwahati, followed by Australia’s title defense against New Zealand on October 1st in Indore.
