Jakarta – A camouflaged vehicle spotted undergoing testing on an Indonesian highway has sparked speculation about a potential new model launch. Footage of the vehicle was captured at night by detikOto editors, prompting online discussion about its identity.
The vehicle is strongly suspected to be the Icar V23, currently available in China.Key details - including the lamp design, body lines, and rear shape – align with the Chinese market model. Several Indonesian citizens have also reported sightings of the camouflaged vehicle in the Jakarta area.
The Icar V23,also sold as the Chery V23 in Thailand,is an electric,off-road style vehicle. In Thailand, it’s offered in three variants – 2WD Play, 2WD Plus, and Peak 4WD - priced starting at 689,900 baht (approximately Rp. 350 million). The 2WD variants feature a 136 PS electric motor with 180 Nm of torque and a 360 km range, while the 4WD version boasts 211 PS and 292 Nm of torque with a 430 km range.
industry observers suggest a potential launch at the Gaikindo jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) in 2025. However, it remains unclear whether the vehicle will be marketed under the Chery or Jaecoo brand in Indonesia.
