Libbey Glass Strike in Toledo Nears End as Union Ratifies Agreement
TOLEDO, Ohio – November 7, 2025 – After a grueling 11-week strike, members of IAM Union Local 1297 at Libbey Glass in Toledo, Ohio, have voted to ratify a union-proposed agreement aimed at resolving the labor dispute and returning workers to the factory floor. The vote, held Friday, marks a important step towards ending the work stoppage that began on August 23rd.
The agreement now awaits approval from Libbey Glass management.
The strike centered around key concerns for union members, including restrictive mandatory overtime policies that impacted work-life balance, attempts by the company to diminish union rights and worker protections, and escalating health insurance costs.
“This was a proactive effort by the union to bring an end to the strike and get our members back to work,” stated IAM District 54 President and Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. “Our members have stayed strong and united throughout this process, and this offer represents a fair path forward that addresses their core concerns. Now Libbey has a chance to treat their employees right and accept this offer and reinstate stability to its Toledo operations.”
Approximately 84 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) at Libbey glass manufacture high-quality glass products, a significant part of Toledo’s industrial heritage, sold globally.
The IAM represents roughly 600,000 active and retired members across a diverse range of industries in the United States and Canada, including aerospace, defense, airlines, and automotive.
