Body Camera Footage Released in Fatal Shooting of Pregnant Woman at Houston Homeless Encampment
HOUSTON, TX – Newly released body camera video depicts the chaotic moments surrounding the October 16th shooting at a homeless encampment behind a Harwin strip mall that left a pregnant woman dead and two others injured. The footage, obtained by Eyewitness News, provides a visual account of the incident and the immediate aftermath, as an officer responding to the scene discharged their weapon.
The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. when an argument escalated into gunfire. Pashinae Drumgo, who was pregnant, succumbed to injuries sustained from a gunshot wound to her lower back and leg hours later. Two men were also shot – one in the ankle, the other in the leg – and both survived. The release of the video comes as the examination continues and questions remain regarding charges in Drumgo’s death.
Surveillance video and body camera footage show a man, identified by police as Ronnie Mitchell, opening fire into a crowd. Men and women scattered as the officer, who was conducting an unrelated traffic stop nearby, fired approximately six shots in the direction of the initial gunfire. Police confirmed the officer’s bullets did not strike anyone.
Mitchell was apprehended minutes after the shooting at a nearby Whataburger and has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the injuries sustained by the two surviving men. However, as of late last month, no charges had been filed in connection with Drumgo’s murder, though police stated at the time that charges were expected.
The investigation remains ongoing.
