Bogor Landslides Claim Three Lives, One Still Missing
Search and rescue teams continue their efforts amid grim discoveries.
Heavy rains triggered landslides in the Puncak area of Bogor, West Java, resulting in at least three fatalities. Rescue teams are actively searching for one individual still missing, feared to have been swept into the Ciesek River, as reported on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Tragic Initial Discovery
Initially, six people were reported buried in the landslides. One person was found deceased, a 22-year-old male from Cianjur. According to reports, survivors were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
Second Location, More Victims
The second landslide struck in the Cisarua District. Five people were initially reported as victims, with three rescued and hospitalized. Search efforts continue for the remaining two individuals. Rudy mentioned that heavy rains on Saturday, July 5, 2025, caused the landslides and flooding. Floodwaters are receding, but officials remain at various disaster sites.
Andi, head of the Bogor Regency BPBD Emergency Team, stated that the search for victims in North Tugu Village, Cisarua District, is ongoing. Joint teams from BPBD, TNI, Polri, Damkar, and Tagana are involved in the evacuation.
Two More Found Dead
A combined SAR team recovered two residents buried by the landslides. “Evacuation runs smoothly thanks to assistance from the public, from fellow TNI, Polri, Basarnas, Satpol PP, Tagana, and Damkar,”
said Ipda Ajub Wilustombang, Danton SAR Company 2 Pioneer Troops 1 Brimob Kedunghalang Bogor.
“There are two victims who were found dead,”
he added. These victims were buried since 9 PM the previous night along with three others who were safely evacuated and are receiving hospital treatment.
The search for the two victims had been underway since the previous night, and they were found around 11:30 AM. The Head of the Jakarta SAR Office, Desiana Kartika Bahari, identified the deceased as **Ruben** (30) and **Jeremy** (28), whose bodies were found 1.5 meters deep. Their bodies were taken to Lung Hospital Dr. M Goenawan Partowidigdo Cibereum for handover to their families.

Current Status
The BPBD reported the total death toll at three. One person remains missing, presumed washed into the Ciesek River after being swept away while fishing. “For the victims died 3 people, (the details) 1 lives in Megamendung Village, Megamendung District and 2 people in North Tugu Village, Cisarua District. While the victims were still in the search of as many as 1 person, in Cipayung Girang Village, Megamendung District,”
said Dejan Habiburrahman, BPBD Pusdalops Staff.
The missing individual was last seen fishing near the Ciesek River at 6:30 PM. M Adam Hamdani, Head of Emergency and Logistics of BPBD Bogor Regency, explained that the victim was fishing when the river embankment behind him collapsed. Despite warnings, the victim did not move and was swept away.
Search efforts continue to determine if the victim is buried under landslide debris or carried away by the river. According to the World Meteorological Organization, extreme rainfall events are becoming more frequent due to climate change, increasing the risk of landslides and floods (WMO 2023).
