Hilary Duff is releasing her first single in a decade, “Mature,” this thursday, November 6. The announcement marks a significant return to music for the actress, who has primarily focused on television roles for the past ten years.
Duff, known for her Disney Channel beginnings and the 2003 album Metamorphosis, shared the single’s title and artwork on Instagram, expressing her excitement to finally share the song after keeping it quiet for a long time. This musical comeback comes after a decade dedicated to acting, including starring roles in Younger and How I Met Yoru Father. She is collaborating with her husband, music producer Matthew Koma, on upcoming songs, a partnership she says was crucial to her return.
“I always knew I was going to return to music. I needed to feel safe and I needed to have the right people in my corner and be absolutely 100% ready,” Duff told Variety on October 26. “Honestly, I needed to have 10 years of life under my belt. I needed a lot to say. This album feels like the inner workings of my brain and I really am so excited to connect with people again on that level, that very forward-facing level.”
Beyond the new single, Duff is also working on a docuseries that will chronicle her personal life and her journey back to the studio. The docuseries is directed by Sam Wrench, who previously worked on Sabrina Carpenter’s A Nonsense Christmas special and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film. A release date for the docuseries has not yet been announced.
