Hezbollah Drone Attacks Kill IDF Reservist and Strike Northern Israel

May 11, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

An Israel Defense Forces reservist was killed Sunday during a Hezbollah drone attack in northern Israel, the military confirmed on Monday.

The soldier has been identified as Warrant Officer (res.) Alexander Glovanyov, 47, a driver serving in the Transport Center’s 6924th Battalion. A resident of Petah Tikva, Glovanyov was killed around 4 p.m. Sunday when several explosive-laden drones launched by Hezbollah struck Israeli territory near Manara, close to the Lebanese border. An IDF probe determined that one of the drones was responsible for his death.

Glovanyov is survived by his wife, a 15-year-old son, and an eight-month-old daughter. His mother, Flora, told the Ynet news site that Glovanyov had consistently tried to reassure her of his safety during recent tensions in the north. “Alexander was a good person. He was my only son. I have no one now,” she said.

The fatality marks the fifth soldier killed in southern Lebanon during an apparent ceasefire. The military further reported that three additional IDF soldiers were lightly injured on Monday during a series of separate explosive drone attacks carried out by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The injured personnel were transported to a hospital and their families have been notified.

Parallel to the strike near Manara, Hezbollah has deployed advanced unmanned aerial vehicles to target Israeli military infrastructure. Reports indicate that the group successfully struck an Iron Dome battery using a First Person View (FPV) drone. Hezbollah carried out a strike on an Israeli military base, described as the deepest attack since the Lebanon ceasefire was established in April.

Military reports suggest that Israel is facing challenges in countering Hezbollah’s use of sophisticated fiber-optic drones, which are designed to evade traditional detection and jamming methods.

In response to the ongoing drone threats, the IDF issued evacuation warnings on Monday for nine villages in southern Lebanon. Residents of Rihan, Jarjouaa, Kfar Roummane, Nmairiyeh, Arab Salim, Jmaijmeh, Mashgharah, Qellaya, and Harouf were instructed to evacuate at least one kilometer away from their homes ahead of scheduled airstrikes targeting the group.
