Google‘s AI-Powered Search Mode Surpasses 100 Million Monthly Users, Driven by India and US Adoption

Mountain View, CA – July 23, 2025 – Google’s experimental AI-powered search mode has rapidly gained traction, attracting over 100 million active monthly users, primarily within the United States and India. This meaningful milestone was revealed during the company’s second-quarter fiscal year conference call with investors.

The AI Overviews feature, another artificial intelligence initiative from the tech giant, also reported ample growth, now serving over two billion users monthly across 40 languages and 200 countries and regions. In parallel, Google has begun rolling out Gemini 2.5 Pro and a “Deep Search” capability within its AI mode for users.

Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, highlighted in a blog post that the AI Mode, which leverages the company’s AI advancements, has been met with strong user approval. He noted that the feature is notably effective for complex and extensive research queries. Despite its limited availability in only two countries, the AI Mode has already achieved 100 million monthly active users. The AI Mode was initially launched in the United States in May, with India following in early July. This rapid expansion has contributed to the remarkable user numbers. Pichai also indicated that Google plans to enhance the AI Mode with new features in the near future. The company has already announced the integration of model selection and deep search functionalities. While a 9To5GOOGLE report suggests these features are being widely rolled out, Gadgets 360 has yet to observe their availability.

Among the new additions is Gemini 2.5 Pro, selectable via a dropdown menu next to “AI Status” within the interface. This advanced AI model is designed to assist users with queries related to mathematics, logic, and programming directly within the search experience.

The second new feature, Deep Search, builds upon Gemini’s deep search capabilities. This enhancement allows users to pose highly complex or specialized inquiries, enabling the AI to conduct more comprehensive searches for relevant facts.

Addressing questions about the distinct positioning of Gemini and AI mode, given their overlapping functionalities, Pichai explained that while there is considerable overlap, each product serves unique use cases. He clarified that AI Mode is primarily focused on information retrieval, whereas Gemini caters to users seeking an assistant or conversational experience. Pichai acknowledged that there will be shared functionalities between the two and expressed confidence in Google’s ability to streamline the user experience over time.
