GARY, Ind. – A routine Uber ride for a Gary man turned into an arrest after allegations of indecent exposure, Indiana State Police announced Monday.
Isaiah Malik Johnson, 22, was being transported from a location on Arizona Street to the Lake County Community corrections Kimbrough Center in Crown Point when the incident occured. The driver, a woman from Gary, reported to Kimbrough Center staff that Johnson, who initially sat in the front seat, began making inappropriate comments during the ride.
According to the driver’s account, Johnson allegedly exposed himself and engaged in sexually suggestive behavior. She repeatedly asked him to exit the vehicle and afterward reported the incident to authorities upon arrival at the Kimbrough Center.
Detectives from the Indiana State Police Lowell Post launched an investigation on October 8th. While johnson admitted to requesting the driver’s phone number,he denied any indecent acts. However, investigators stated that evidence gathered through interviews and other details corroborated the driver’s claims.
On October 9th, Johnson was formally charged with indecent exposure, a Class C misdemeanor.He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail pending review of the case by the prosecutor’s office.
It is significant to note that Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
