FSU College of Music Announces 2025-2026 Concert season

The Florida State University (FSU) College of Music is set to launch its 2025-2026 concert season, promising a diverse array of performances that blend timeless classics with groundbreaking new compositions. Beginning September 19, the season will showcase over 35 concerts, operas, festivals, and faculty showcases, offering audiences a rich exploration of musical styles and cultures.

The season aims to inspire students and audiences alike through a blend of tradition and innovation.

Opening Night and Fall Highlights

The season will commence with the University Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Alexander Jiménez, professor of conducting and director of orchestral activities. The opening performance features Ravel’s “Piano Concerto for the Left Hand,” performed by Molly reid, winner of the Doctoral Concerto Competition, and Respighi’s “Pines of Rome.”

Other notable fall events include the Wind Orchestra’s tribute to James Croft, a legendary FSU Band Director, on September 26.The faculty showcase, “May I Have this Dance?” is scheduled for October 9, and jazz icon Helen Sung will perform with the honors Jazz Combo on October 13.

A collaboration between Opening Nights at FSU and the College of Music will bring a host of world-class talent to Tallahassee. Performances include Grammy-winning country artist Kendell Marvel on October 7, and Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Nicole Zuraitis with FSU jazz faculty on January 20. Celebrated international ensembles Boston Brass and Imani Winds will perform on February 3,followed by Sphinx Virtuosi with violinist Randall Goosby on February 26.

Opera and New Music Festivals

Opera will take center stage with Massenet’s “Cendrillon” from October 30 to November 2,and Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” from April 9 to 12. FSU Opera will also present “Dark Sisters,” a contemporary opera by Nico Muhly, on May 29-30.

The Festival of New Music, scheduled for January 29-31, will feature premieres and performances that push musical boundaries. The Bang on a Can All-Stars, described by The new york Times as a fiercely aggressive group blending rock band power with chamber ensemble precision, will also perform on January 30.

Centennial Celebration and Conventional Favorites

The College of Music will commemorate the 100th anniversary of its first official orchestra concert on March 25, recreating the 1926 program. College of Music alumna Alexandra Dee will conduct this special concert with the women of the University Symphony Orchestra.

Audience favorites such as PRISM (December 2-5), Seasonal Celebration (December 7), and concerts like America 250: A Celebration (April 14) will also be featured, rounding out a season filled with inspiration and musical excellence.
