Franco-Ontario Celebrates Flag‘s 50th with Revitalized Anthem
TORONTO – A new generation of Franco-Ontarian artists have come together to reimagine a beloved cultural touchstone ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag on September 25th. Singer-songwriter Brian St-Pierre spearheaded the project, launching a refreshed version of the iconic song my Lovely Flag, accompanied by a music video titled My Beautiful flag (new generation).
The initiative, supported by the Assemblée de la Francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO), features contributions from a diverse range of established Franco-Ontarian musicians including Robert Paquette, Stef Paquette, Damien Robitaille, yao, Joly, Les Rats d’Efompe, and Céleste Lévis.
“In this highly symbolic year, My Beautiful Flag (new generation) links memory and future,” stated Fabien Hébert, highlighting the song’s role in bridging Franco-Ontarian heritage with contemporary expression. The AFO views the project as a celebration of franco-Ontarian creativity and vitality, designed to foster unity across schools, families, and the wider public around a potent symbol of identity. To further amplify the flag’s significance, an educational and cultural animation guide, developed under the direction of Félix Saint-denis, will be distributed to support community and school-based initiatives. The resources aim to promote understanding and gratitude of the Franco-Ontarian flag and its enduring legacy.
