Framework today announced a significant upgrade to its Laptop 16, integrating Nvidia‘s RTX 5070 graphics card. This move positions the Laptop 16 as one of the first, and perhaps the only, laptops powered solely by USB-C to feature this level of graphics capability.
The original Framework Laptop 16 launched in early 2024, initially configured with AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS (and Ryzen 9) processors and a Radeon RX 7700S discrete GPU. Testing at the time showed the RX 7700S delivering performance comparable to a mobile RTX 4060. Framework states the RTX 5070 upgrade provides a 30 to 40 percent increase in GPU performance over the RX 7700S.
To support the increased power demands,framework is including a 240-watt USB-C charger utilizing the USB Power Delivery 3.1 standard. This distinguishes the Laptop 16 from many gaming laptops that rely on proprietary power connectors.
