Explosion at Westerwald Doner snack Injures Six, Cuts Gas to Daaden
DAADEN, Germany - A sudden explosion at a Doner snack bar in Daaden, Westerwald, injured six people-including a young boy critically hurt-and prompted a complete shutdown of the town’s gas supply Tuesday evening. Emergency services responded to the scene near the business’s location, initiating a large-scale operation to assess damage and ensure resident safety.
The incident occurred as the owner of the doner snack bar and another individual stood outside the building, sustaining minor injuries when the blast occurred. A rescue helicopter transported the severely injured boy to a nearby hospital for treatment. Five additional individuals were treated on-site for shock following the explosion. Authorities are currently investigating the cause, while the town grapples with the immediate disruption of gas service and the well-being of those affected.
Firefighters from Daaden quickly responded to the scene, battling two separate fires that ignited as a result of the explosion. Initial concerns centered on potential structural collapse and whether residents were inside the building at the time of the incident. “The emergency services are clarifying whether residents were in the house at the time of the explosion,” a fire department spokesperson stated.
The explosion necessitated a complete disconnection of Daaden’s gas supply, impacting the entire municipality. The local network operator is working to restore service as quickly as possible.
Local authorities have established a support center at the Daaden Bürgerhaus to provide assistance to residents. The center is offering warm beverages and essential supplies for children and infants, according to a police spokesperson.
