EU Calls for Inclusive Peace Plan, Warns of RussiaChina Alignment

Brussels – The European Union remains steadfast in its support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, with any viable peace plan requiring the full participation of both Ukraine and European nations, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated Friday during the opening of the EU-Indo-Pacific ministerial Forum.

Kallas reiterated the EU’s position on peace proposals, emphasizing that “any peace plan can only work if Ukraine and the Europeans are part of it.” she noted that despite four years of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, there has been no indication from Moscow of a genuine desire for peace.

“If Russia really wanted peace, it would have accepted the unconditional ceasefire that has been on the table sence March,” Kallas stated, highlighting the continued violence, including the recent deaths of 26 Ukrainian civilians in Russian attacks just two days prior.

Beyond the immediate conflict,Kallas underscored the global ramifications of the war, extending its reach to the Indo-Pacific region. She pointed to the flow of military supplies – troops, weapons, and ammunition – from North Korea to Russia, and the role of China, which despite publicly claiming neutrality, is contributing to the conflict through exports of dual-use goods.

Kallas warned that Beijing and Moscow are actively collaborating to reshape the global economic and security landscape in a way that impacts all nations.

In response to this evolving geopolitical situation, Kallas stressed the urgent need for increased cooperation between the EU and its partners. She emphasized that collective strength is crucial for addressing challenges related to security, enduring growth, connectivity, climate protection, and upholding international law.

Kallas emphasized that triumphant partnerships require collaboration at all levels – from individual citizens and businesses to development banks, national governments, and regional authorities.
