Erfan Fard: Trump Must Not Let Iran Turn Defeat Into Triumph

Erfan Fard: Trump Must Not Let Iran Turn Defeat Into Triumph

October 23, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

President Donald Trump faces the strategic risk of letting Iran transform a battlefield defeat into a diplomatic triumph through nuclear blackmail and stalled negotiations. After eight months of war, Iranian officials continue to press for political survival while weaponizing global energy security concerns.

The Islamic Republic demonstrated on October 20 that it had abandoned none of its tactics of intimidation and extortion. While officials in Tehran publicly speak of ending the conflict, they simultaneously impose conditions that threaten to dismantle American bargaining power.

Iran Refuses to Export Enriched Uranium

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Islamic Republic’s Supreme National Security Council, stated during a meeting with Pakistan’s army chief that not a single gram of Iran’s enriched uranium would leave the country. Rezaei is a former terrorist affiliated with the Islamic terrorist group Mansouroun whom the CIA opposed visiting the United States in the 2000s.

At the same time, Abbas Araghchi, a former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps member, conditioned the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on the acceptance of Tehran’s proposed plans. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that Iranian naval mines blocked three oil tankers from passing through the vital waterway.

Counterterrorism analyst Erfan Fard, writing for Fox News, noted that Tehran is deliberately dragging out talks to weaken the political standing of the American president ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The regime aims to exploit the exhaustion of war, voter anxieties, and rising energy costs to increase pressure on Washington.

Asymmetric Warfare Strategy Raises Global Energy Costs

The regime’s asymmetric warfare strategy relies on maritime disruptions, militia networks, and cyber operations to raise economic costs without engaging in conventional naval battles. This strategy drives up transportation and insurance costs for global energy markets, directly affecting American consumers at the fuel pump.

Trump must distinguish between ending military operations and eliminating a security threat. While kinetic strikes have degraded Revolutionary Guards’ operational capabilities, the command structure and political will of the ruling establishment remain intact.
