EBU Extends Gymnastics Rights Deal with FIG Through 2028
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) have announced a renewal of their exclusive media rights partnership, guaranteeing continued free-to-air coverage of premier gymnastics events across Europe until 2028.
The agreement, extending a decades-long relationship, covers exclusive rights to the FIG World Championships in artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline gymnastics. It also includes non-exclusive rights for events in aerobic, acrobatic, and parkour disciplines. Coverage will be available on both linear channels and the Eurovision Sport streaming platform.
This renewal encompasses 20 EBU members, including prominent broadcasters such as VRT (Belgium), ARD/ZDF (Germany), and RAI (Italy). The deal builds on the EBU’s recent extension with European Gymnastics in May, solidifying its position as a central broadcast partner for the sport in Europe.
“This ongoing collaboration with the EBU demonstrates our shared commitment to strengthening the presence of gymnastics across Europe and plays a key role in its growth,” said FIG president Morinari Watanabe. “Together, we continue to connect with new audiences, inspire the next generation of fans, and deliver high-quality coverage to dedicated supporters of the sport.”
Glen Killane, executive director of EBU Sport, added: “This renewed agreement reflects the strength and continuity of our partnership with FIG and our shared commitment to making world-class gymnastics accessible to everyone. Through the collective power and reach of public service media, we’re not only showcasing the sport’s most significant moments, but also inspiring the next generation of athletes and fans.”
The partnership’s first event under the new agreement will be the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, from October 19th to 25th, broadcast across the linear and digital channels of 19 EBU members.
The previous agreement between the EBU and FIG expired at the end of 2024. this latest extension follows the EBU securing pan-continental rights to the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Paralympic games earlier this week.
