Walnut Creek, California – Maximum Entertainment and Secret Base today released a free downloadable content pack, “Bimmy & Friends,” for the beat ‘em up game Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, adding four new playable characters to the game’s roster. The update is available now across PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
The new characters – Armored Okada, Jackson, Jim Mackey, and Bimmy Lee – each bring unique fighting styles and backstories to the game, expanding the strategic options for players utilizing the game’s tag-team combat system. This is the largest character update to date for Double Dragon Gaiden, following the April 2025 release of Jeff and Abore as downloadable characters, according to Maximum Entertainment.
Armored Okada, described as the Oyabun of the Okada Clan, faces internal challenges as she attempts to prove her worth to skeptical clan elders. Jackson is a former heavyweight boxer who traded the regulated ring for the more chaotic world of street fighting. Jim Mackey, the younger brother of M.G. Willy, seeks to establish his own identity and gang, opting for a shotgun as his weapon of choice, contrasting with his brother’s machine gun. Bimmy Lee’s inclusion alludes to a long-held legend within the Sōsetsuken martial art – the possibility of a form mastered by only two individuals.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons allows players to control up to two characters simultaneously, switching between them during combat. The game features dynamic side-scrolling action and a roguelite progression system as players battle through the criminal underworld of New York City.
The release of “Bimmy & Friends” follows a period of promotional activity for the game, including a 60% discount on PC and Nintendo Switch earlier this year, as reported by Maximum Entertainment. The game originally launched in 2023, reviving the classic Double Dragon series with updated mechanics and a new storyline.
