Diddy‘s Attorneys Seek Minimal sentence, Prosecutors Push for Over 20 Years
NEW YORK, NY - Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs are requesting a sentence of less than two months in prison, arguing that over a year already served in jail should suffice, ahead of his October 3 sentencing for sex trafficking-related charges. Prosecutors, however, are seeking a sentence exceeding 20 years,a request Combs’ legal team calls “a perversion of justice.”
The request centers on Combs’ conviction on two counts of transporting former girlfriend Cassie Ventura and others across state lines to prostitution, following a high-profile trial this spring where he was acquitted of more serious racketeering (RICO) and sex trafficking charges that carried potential life sentences. His lawyers contend his career and reputation have been destroyed and that he has “made the most of that punishment” during his 13 months in jail, making immediate release appropriate.
“Mr. Combs’s career and reputation have been destroyed,” his attorneys wrote in a sentencing submission Tuesday. “He has served over a year in one of the most notorious jails in America - yet has made the most of that punishment. It is time for Mr. Combs to go home to his family, so he can continue his treatment and try to make the most of the next chapter of his unusual life.”
Prosecutors are reportedly seeking a sentence substantially longer than the 14 months that would effectively secure Combs’ release, a request his legal team decries as disproportionate to the crimes. They argue the case revolved around consensual encounters between adults.
“This is wildly out of proportion to the conduct at issue-threesomes where fully competent adult men and women voluntarily crossed state lines and had consensual sex with each other, and the defendant made no money from the conduct,” Combs’ attorneys stated. “This draconian approach makes Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts seem benevolent.”
Combs was arrested in september 2024 and accused of running a criminal enterprise facilitating sexual encounters - described as “freak-offs” – where he allegedly forced women, including Ventura, to engage in sex with male escorts while he watched. The jury ultimately cleared him of the central RICO and sex trafficking allegations.
His lawyers emphasize the jury’s verdict in their sentencing submission, stating, “The government accused Sean Combs of heinous crimes. It branded him an evil trafficker and racketeer who coerced and defrauded his girlfriends into having sex against their will. But none of that was true. Put simply, the jury has spoken.”
