Tigers Eyeing Suárez Acquisition Amidst Roster Flexibility
Teh Detroit Tigers are reportedly exploring avenues to acquire third baseman Eugenio Suárez, a move that would bolster their lineup as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. Suárez, a veteran wiht a career .249 batting average and .794 OPS over 1,566 games, has expressed openness to joining the Tigers, stating that Detroit would be among the teams he considers if he becomes a free agent this offseason.
This potential acquisition comes as the Tigers continue to evaluate their roster, notably at third base. Zack McKinstry, who has been a versatile contributor, playing six positions and logging over 200 innings in the outfield, currently serves as the primary third baseman. McKinstry’s performance this season, hitting .285 with an .836 OPS in his first 88 games, represents a significant uptick from his career .220 batting average and .643 OPS over 387 games prior to 2025. however, analysts suggest a potential for regression in his numbers over the remaining two months of the season.
Should Suárez be traded by his current team before the deadline, the Tigers would still have the possibility to pursue him in free agency. Suárez himself indicated that all 30 MLB teams would be on his radar, with Detroit being a notable option.
