Delhi Court Orders Release of Detained Cockroach Janta Party Leaders
The legal proceedings surrounding the Cockroach Janta Party shifted when a Delhi court ordered the release of party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. Ranka, Das, and fellow campaign leader Ajinkya Shinde had been initially detained on October 13 after entering Jantar Mantar to wave the national flag and protest the area’s removal as a designated protest site.
Following their initial detention, Ranka and Das were remanded to judicial custody for five days on October 14, while Shinde secured release on a personal bond. When that initial custody expired on a Monday, a Delhi court extended the judicial custody of Ranka and Das by an additional two days.
The Special Executive Magistrate Court in Delhi Cantt ordered the release of CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka on Sunday under a one-year peace bond condition requiring a surety of ₹50,000 each. The trio had faced preventive arrest under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, following mass detentions that saw over 2,500 protesters held across the capital ahead of a planned demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Legal challenges quickly followed the detentions. Anant Gupta discussed the custody of the CJP leaders with former Delhi High Court Justice S Muralidhar, who stated that the action impinges on freedom.

The State Bank of India confirmed that a cyberattack compromised approximately 3.75 lakh customer records, exposing them on the dark web. Out of those records, 3,897 contained personally identifiable information, including names, mobile numbers, dates of birth, gender, email addresses, and residential addresses.
The bank maintained that the security breach would not impact its operations or financial performance. Even so, the digital rights organization Internet Freedom Foundation criticized the institution for failing to notify the affected customers directly, noting that the bank only informed stock exchanges about the incident.
