Hollywood Exodus: Stars Trade LA for Simpler Lives, Zoom Meetings
LOS ANGELES – A growing number of actors and entertainment industry professionals are leaving Los Angeles, citing a desire for a more relaxed lifestyle and a shift towards remote work, according to recent interviews. The trend, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, sees celebrities seeking community and a break from California’s policies in states like Idaho and Nevada.
The shift isn’t just about geography; it’s also about how business is conducted.Producer Jason Lascher explained that in-person meetings are increasingly rare in the entertainment industry. “every other business is back in the office, but all my meetings, whether it’s writing or producing or even reading for stuff, it’s all on Zoom or video,” he revealed. Actress Christine Taylor called this a ”casualty of COVID,” while Danica mckellar added, ”But it is convenient.”
Actors like Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone, Jessica Simpson, Dean Cain, and Ali Larter have also publicly discussed their departures from Los Angeles. Larter, who stars on “landman,” told Fox News Digital last year that her family’s move to Idaho offered “a simpler life with really generous people, and there’s an accountability when you live in a small town that we really loved raising our children in.”
Cain, speaking on “Fox & Friends” in 2023, expressed his fondness for California but cited concerns over state policies as a reason for his move to Henderson, Nevada. “I love California, the most beautiful state – everything’s wonderful about it except for the policies,” he said. Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, married since 2000,have also seemingly embraced this shift, though their specific relocation details haven’t been disclosed.
