Sew Torn, the crime thriller described as “very clever”, has found a new streaming home in the UK.
The 2024 film, directed and co-written by Freddy Macdonald, follows ‘The Mobile Seamstress’ Barbara Duggen (Eve Connolly) as she struggles to keep her fabric shop open for business amid financial hardship.
After a botched job unwittingly brings Barbara to a failed drug deal, the character is faced with three decisions – calling the police, driving away or committing the perfect crime. Faced with saving her store, the story presents outcomes from all three potential choices.
Co-starring Calum Worthy and John Lynch in supporting roles, Sew Torn had a small theatrical release in the US back in May, and it is now available in the UK and Ireland after being added to both Sky Cinema and streaming service NOW.
The crime thriller, which premiered at South by Southwest in March has also received acclaim from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting an impressive approval rating of 95% from 39 reviews.

“Some will thrill to the film’s silliness, others may find it a joke stretched beyond elasticity, but it’ll have many putting a pin in Macdonald’s name,” wrote Variety, while LAist described the narrative as “very clever” if a little familiar.
Bloody Disgusting was similarly positive as they noted that the “cosy crime thriller” was “inventive” and “whimsical”, while Mashable said that audiences wouldn’t “want to miss” the “quirky” film.
RogerEbert.com described the film as “off-kilter”, while Cinemalogue wrote: “Although its ambition sometimes exceeds its grasp, this offbeat crime thriller navigates some clever science-fiction twists with a winning balance of humour and suspense.”

Based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, the first instalment of the two-part saga follows Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) as they begin a magical journey that will take them across the land of Oz.
Sew Torn is streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW.
