Top Comedian Joins Exodus From Hollywood, Criticizes California Governor Newsom
LOS ANGELES, CA – A growing number of high-profile figures are leaving California, with comedian Joe Rogan becoming the latest to voice discontent with the state’s political climate and quality of life.Rogan, who relocated to Austin, Texas in 2020, publicly attributed his departure to escalating unrest in Los angeles, specifically referencing incidents of civil disturbance.
“When the sht started getting weird in LA and they were burning cop cars on the freeway, that’s when daddy was like I got to get out of hear,” Rogan explained.
His comments echo similar sentiments expressed by other celebrities who have recently left the state. Ellen DeGeneres, now residing in England with her wife Portia de Rossi, confirmed she left the US following Donald Trump’s election and subsequent return to power, citing concerns over potential reversals of LGBTQ+ rights. She and de Rossi, who married in 2008, are even considering a second marriage ceremony in the UK.
The trend extends beyond those making international moves. Matthew McConaughey, Glen Powell, and Sylvester Stallone are among numerous individuals who have relocated to different parts of the United States in recent years.
Rogan’s departure comes amid broader criticism of California’s governance, particularly from figures like Elon Musk. In 2020, Musk moved Tesla and SpaceX headquarters to Texas after a dispute with California lawmakers, stating the state had become “complacent” and “entitled” regarding innovation.
“They do tend to get a little complacent, a little entitled, and then they don’t win the championship anymore,” Musk told *The Wall Street Journal. He added that California and Silicon Valley had “been winning for a long time” and were “taking it [winning] for granted a little bit.”
While reasons for leaving vary, a common thread appears to be dissatisfaction with California’s political and economic environment under Governor Gavin Newsom. The exodus raises questions about the state’s future as a hub for entertainment and technology.
