Tangerang,Banten – Indonesian police have apprehended two Chinese nationals in connection wiht the theft of jewelry,precious metals,and cash from a residence in Karawaci,Tangerang City. The burglary, which occurred on August 25, resulted in an estimated loss of Rp4.5 billion (approximately US$275,000).
Authorities identified the suspects as feng Shangwei, 49, and Huang Xiaobo, 39. According to Tangerang Police Chief Sr. Comr. Raden Muhammad Jauhari, a third suspect, CW, 40, remains at large and has fled to China.
“We have coordinated with the International Relations Division and Interpol to arrest the suspect on the wanted list,” Jauhari stated during a press conference.
Investigators persistent the suspects gained entry by scaling a fence and forcibly entering the home, targeting valuables located on the second floor. CCTV footage aided in their identification. Police learned the trio had been staying at a Jakarta hotel and were preparing to depart for Shanghai.
A coordinated effort with Soekarno-Hatta Airport Immigration and Airport Police led to the arrest of Feng and Huang as they attempted to board a flight. CW evaded capture and returned to China.
The suspects have been charged under Article 363 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which carries a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison.
This case highlights Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to combat foreign-led property crime, following recent incidents involving other nationalities. In a separate case, two Iranian nationals were deported following a viral theft in Banten’s Serang, and an Azerbaijani citizen was arrested in Bali for a money changer heist worth IDR 191 million.
