Charlotte Shooting: 1 Dead, 4 Injured at Hucks Road Party

One person died and four others were injured in a shooting at a party in north Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday night, police said. The shooting occurred just after 7:30 p.m. On Hucks Road, near Old Statesville Road.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Major Gene Lim told reporters at the scene that officers arrived to uncover a large crowd dispersing from the party. “Upon arrival here, I probably passed about 50 young adults walking up to the scene,” Lim said. He described the situation as “some kind of party gone wrong” and expressed frustration, stating, “This disturbs and upsets me.”

The victim who died has been identified as 20-year-old Richard Jeddiah Thomas. The ages of the four individuals who sustained non-life-threatening injuries have not been released. Police initially reported two people injured, later updating the number to four, and then confirming one fatality.

Major Lim emphasized the importance of parental awareness, stating, “This serves as a stark reminder to me, to the community, to recognize where your kids are. Be involved in your kids’, young adults’ lives, due to the fact that… This doesn’t happen by accident.”

The incident occurred in the 5900 block of Hucks Road, south of the intersection of Interstate 485 and Old Statesville Road.
