Celine Dion Shares Message of gratitude on U.S. Thanksgiving Amidst Health Battle
NEW YORK, NY - November 23, 2023 – Celine Dion offered a message of love and gratitude to her fans on Thursday, posting a heartfelt video on Instagram for American Thanksgiving. The singer, 57, has been publicly battling stiff person syndrome since revealing her diagnosis in December 2022, which led to the postponement or cancellation of several concerts.
“Dear friends. Today is a stunning reminder to slow down, take a deep breath and give thanks,” Dion said in the clip. Her accompanying caption read: “Wishing everyone a beautiful and peaceful Thanksgiving! May your day be filled with love, gratitude, and precious moments with the people who mean the most to you.”
Stiff person syndrome, as defined by the Cleveland Clinic, causes rigidity and spasms in the trunk and limbs, progressively affecting muscles in the legs, arms, and face.
In a June 2024 interview with Today’s Hoda Kotb, Dion described the impact the condition has had on her ability to sing, stating, “it’s like somebody is strangling you,” and “It’s like somebody is pushing your larynx/pharynx this way.”
Despite the challenges, Dion’s recent post signals a moment of reflection and appreciation.
