Sacramento Senator to Announce Legal Action Following DUI Citation
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Senator Sabrina cervantes will hold a media availability Monday morning to announce legal action stemming from a DUI citation she received in May, according to reports. The declaration comes after Cervantes maintained her innocence and toxicology results cleared her of any alcohol or drug use at the time of the incident.
Cervantes was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following a collision at 14th and S streets on May 19th while en route to the State Capitol. She sustained minor injuries in the crash. Initial reports from officers at the hospital indicated signs of intoxication, but subsequent clarification stated Cervantes did not exhibit signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
The Senator has consistently asserted her innocence, stating to KCRA 3 in May, “The Sacramento Police Department has falsely accused me. I hold myself to the highest standard and integrity. Anyone can speak to my character and I want to make sure my name will be vindicated and will be cleared because I did nothing wrong.” toxicology results from a blood sample later tested negative for “any measurable amount of alcohol or drugs.”
The Sacramento Police Department initially indicated it would release body camera footage of the incident following a request from KCRA 3, but later stated the footage would not be released due to it’s status as part of an ongoing investigation. Further details regarding the legal action Cervantes intends to pursue are expected at Monday’s press conference.
