Brutal fight at Free Ladies Concert in Colombia: One Dead, Five Injured

Concert in Bogotá Suspended After Violent Clashes, One Death Reported

A concert by the popular Argentinian cumbia group los Palmeras at the Movistar Arena in Bogotá, Colombia, was suspended Wednesday following a large-scale brawl both inside and outside the venue. The decision was made “for security reasons” to “protect attendees and collaborators,” according to a statement from stadium authorities.

The violence erupted prior to the planned closing of the band’s international tour. Witnesses reported a dispute between two groups in the stands escalated rapidly, resulting in a physical altercation involving thrown objects including bottles, knives, and blunt instruments. Videos of the incident quickly circulated on social media.

Despite security personnel removing the individuals involved in the initial fight within the arena, the unrest continued in the surrounding area. Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán announced on Instagram that one person had died outside the Movistar Arena, reportedly after being struck by an object. He stated a full examination into the death is underway.

“The violent events that occurred before the concert are absolutely reprehensible,” Galán wrote. “This type of violence cannot be overlooked or accepted as normal.” He also confirmed that several individuals were receiving treatment for injuries at various hospitals throughout the city. A report detailing the events and establishing obligation will be prepared in collaboration with the venue, concert promoters, and security officials.

The Metropolitan police reported five people were injured with bladed weapons and are currently hospitalized. They also stated that security and logistical organization were overwhelmed by the disruptive behavior of concertgoers, necessitating the intervention of specialized police units to regain control and facilitate the safe exit of attendees.

Los Palmeras frontman Pablo Lescano expressed his devastation following the tragedy. In a post on his Instagram account, he lamented the death of a fan and the numerous injuries, writing, “Goodbye Bogotá, Colombia, you broke my heart. Very sad for everything that happened.” the post was accompanied by screenshots of messages from fans expressing their disappointment and sorrow over the events, with one fan stating the incident ruined what was meant to be a birthday celebration.
