BMKG: Potential Light Rain Showers in Several Areas of Jakarta This Afternoon

Jakarta-Area Residents Expect Sun, Possible Afternoon Showers

Weather agency urges vigilance amidst shifting conditions.

Residents of Jakarta and surrounding cities should prepare for mostly sunny skies, though isolated afternoon showers are possible. While the calendar indicates the dry season, atmospheric conditions remain dynamic, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency’s (BMKG) latest forecast.

Afternoon Rain Expected

The **BMKG** anticipates potential light rain across West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta, and North Jakarta between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM WIB. The Thousand Islands may experience light rain earlier in the day, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM WIB, and again around 10:00 PM WIB.

Temperatures are forecast to range from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius, with winds between 1 and 17 kilometers per hour.

West Java Forecast

Bogor Regency in West Java could see light rain from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM WIB. Furthermore, Bogor City, Depok City, Bekasi Regency, and Bekasi City are also predicted to have light rain showers between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM WIB.

The temperature in Bogor Regency is expected to be between 18 and 32 degrees Celsius, with other areas ranging from 20 to 33 degrees Celsius. Wind speeds are projected to be approximately 6 to 10 kilometers per hour.

Banten Conditions

In Banten, light rain is anticipated to affect Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, and South Tangerang City. Temperatures in these locales are predicted to range from 23 to 32 degrees Celsius.

Agency Issues Warning

“The public must remain vigilant, even though according to the calendar, we are in the dry season. Do not be complacent, the weather can change quickly and have a significant impact,” the **BMKG** stated in a press release on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

According to the **BMKG**, only 30% of Indonesia’s seasonal zones had entered the dry season by the end of June. The agency noted that most of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua still face the potential for moderate to heavy rain, possibly accompanied by thunder and strong winds, within the coming week.

Atmospheric Dynamics

The **BMKG** explained that the weather during this dry season is being affected by atmospheric dynamics, including the continuous formation of convective or rain clouds, equatorial Rossby and Kelvin waves, convergence zones, wind convergence, and potential cyclonic circulation around the Indian and Pacific Oceans. These factors are contributing to the ongoing development of widespread rain clouds.
