Minister Braže Highlights Regional Economic Growth & Youth Engagement During Līvāni Visit
Līvāni, November 8, 2025 – Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže conducted a regional working visit to Līvāni today, meeting with local officials, business leaders, and students to discuss economic advancement, international cooperation, and national priorities.
The visit began with a commemoration of the 1919 battles for the liberation of Līvāni, where minister Braže, alongside Līvāni City Council Chairman Dāvid Ruben, laid flowers at the monument honoring those who fought for Latvia’s independence.
Discussions with Ruben and municipal representatives centered on regional economic cooperation, the municipality’s participation in international projects, and the support available from the foreign service to local entrepreneurs. The upcoming EU multi-year budget, attracting EU funding, and promoting foreign trade were also key topics.
A significant portion of the visit was dedicated to “Light Guide Optics,” a global leader in optical fiber production. Minister Braže toured the company’s production facility and met with CEO Daumantas Pfafrodas and employees. “Light Guide Optics” employs over 300 people and exports 99.9% of its products – used in medical equipment and electronics – to markets including Austria, the USA, france, Israel, Italy, Ireland, Singapore, and Germany.
During the meeting,challenges facing the company were discussed,notably housing availability and attracting a qualified workforce,alongside issues related to education. Minister Braže expressed strong support for the Latvian company, praising its success as “inspiring.”
The Minister also engaged with students at Līvāni 1st Secondary School, leading a discussion on public participation, responsible social media usage, national security, and the national defense service.
Minister Braže reaffirmed the Foreign Affairs Service’s commitment to supporting Latvian businesses in expanding their international reach, attracting foreign investment, and fostering partnerships. She emphasized that representing Latvia’s economic interests remains a top priority.
The Minister concluded her visit with an interview on Vidusdaugava television, further detailing the day’s discussions and the government’s commitment to regional development.
