Apple’s Smart Glasses: Vision Pro Plans Shelved for New Devices

Apple Shifts Focus to Smart Glasses, Reallocating‍ Vision Pro Team

CUPERTINO, CA – September 30, 2025 – ⁤Apple is accelerating‍ advancement of its smart glasses program, reportedly reassigning staff from the Vision Pro project‍ to prioritize the‍ new devices, according to a report by bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. The move signals a strategic shift as Apple aims to ⁢compete ‌more directly with Meta in the emerging smart glasses market.

Apple is currently developing two distinct smart glasses models. One, internally known as “N50,” is⁢ designed⁤ to function as a companion device to iPhones, lacking a display of its own. Apple intends to launch this model in 2026. The company is also working on a separate pair of smart glasses featuring ⁢an‌ augmented reality⁤ display intended to rival ‌the Meta Ray-Ban Display, with development now being expedited from a planned 2028 release.

Both models will heavily integrate‍ voice interaction ⁤and AI commands, building on Apple’s forthcoming updated Siri, ⁣powered by large language‍ models, slated for release next year. These glasses ⁣will ‌include features such as a new chip, speakers, cameras ‌for image and video⁣ capture, and potential health-tracking capabilities. apple envisions a future⁢ where augmented‍ reality glasses could eventually rival⁣ smartphones, ⁣and this ⁤shift reflects ⁤a desire‍ to catch up to Meta’s progress in the space.

Despite this ‍change in focus, Apple has not abandoned the Vision Pro. The Federal Communications‌ Commission (FCC) recently uploaded documents referencing an updated “Head Mounted Device” from Apple, though its relation to a potential lighter, ‍more ⁣affordable Vision Pro version remains ‍unclear. the original Vision Pro currently retails for ‍$3,499.
