Apple Siri AI: WWDC 2026 Reveals & iOS 18 Updates

March 25, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Apple will unveil a significantly redesigned Siri at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8th, transforming the voice assistant into a “systemwide AI agent,” according to a report from Bloomberg. The overhaul, previewed ahead of WWDC 2026, signals a major shift in Apple’s approach to artificial intelligence and its integration across its ecosystem.

The updated Siri will move beyond simple voice commands, gaining the ability to control applications and features within iOS and macOS more comprehensively. A key element of the redesign is its access to and utilization of user data – emails, messages, and notes – to complete tasks and provide more personalized responses. This enhanced capability will too extend to summarizing information from Apple News and delivering more detailed responses sourced from the web, including summaries, bullet points, and images, positioning Siri as a more competitive alternative to AI-powered search tools like Perplexity and Google Gemini.

Apple is also developing a standalone Siri app, currently in testing, that will be available across its devices. This application aims to provide Siri with robust conversational capabilities through a chat-like interface mirroring Apple Messages. The app will serve as a central hub for users to review past interactions, search through chat histories, switch between voice and text input, and analyze uploaded documents and photos. This represents a departure from Siri’s traditional activation methods and a move towards a more persistent and accessible AI companion.

Beyond the app, Apple is experimenting with several interface designs for the core Siri experience. One potential design places the assistant at the top of the iPhone screen within the Dynamic Island. Another involves prompting users with “Search or Ask” options upon activation. Following a query, the Siri interface will expand into a translucent panel, capable of further expansion to facilitate ongoing conversations or additional inquiries. Apple is also considering replacing the existing Spotlight search system with Siri, granting the assistant access to a wider range of data.

Further integration is planned within built-in apps, with an “Ask Siri” toggle being added to menus. This feature will allow users to quickly request information about highlighted text or initiate related actions, such as retrieving relevant emails. According to reports, Apple is actively testing these features and designs, with the final implementation to be revealed at WWDC 2026. The event is expected to showcase the full extent of Apple’s AI advancements and their impact on the user experience.

Apple’s announcement of a revamped Siri comes as the company prepares to release the iPad 12 with an A18 chip later this year, designed to support Apple Intelligence features, according to MacRumors. The timing suggests a coordinated effort to deliver a more powerful and integrated AI experience across its hardware and software platforms.
